Wisconsin Golfers Off to a Fast Start in Hawaii

Posted in Welcome at 8:10 pm by Dan Croak

We will try to keep you up to date on performances by our Wisconsin PGA TOUR members throughout the year. If the first two weeks are any indication, it will be a banner year.

Steve Stricker is two for two, posting two top 5 finishes so far. He followed up his runner-up finish at the Mercedes-Benz Championship with a T-4 at this week’s Sony Open. Despite starting slowly in each event, Steve rallied to get into contention on the weekends. He is currently 3rd on both the FedEx Cup Points List and the Money List behind K.J. Choi and Daniel Chopra. “I’m pretty pleased with two top fives,” he said. “Coming out of the snow and being able to hit some balls, I’m happy with my start.”

Jerry Kelly played very well in the wind on Sunday to finish third at the Sony Open. He has fared very well at this event, having won once and finished in the top 5 three other times. In fact, Jerry has finished no worse than 13th in six of the last seven tournaments. Did you see his post round interview? He told the Golf Channel’s Mike Ritz that he was headed back to Wisconsin and then up to Green Bay next Sunday to watch the Packers in the NFC Championship Game.

Mark Wilson and J.P. Hayes both made the cut and finished T-25 and T-40 respectively. Mark played both events in Hawaii while J.P. played just the Sony Open.

It looks like all four will be taking the week off this week to enjoy the Packer game. Wouldn’t it be great to see them continue their great play at the FBR Open in a couple of weeks? We could root for the Wisconsin double as the Super Bowl will be played the same day as the final round just a few miles away in Glendale, AZ.

We’ll try to keep you posted as the season progresses.
